👉Description  :  The Toddy cat is black or blackish brown in colour. It has got long, coarse hair and short, black/ brownish black limbs. It has varied facial markings. Pattern of markings on the body is variable. When the coat is new, stripes and spots in rows are distinctive, but they become inconspicuous later. 



👉Food  :  Omnivorous. It feeds on rats and other small mammals, birds, fruits and toddy juice.



👉Distribution  :   In the districts of Panchmahals, Dahod and Vadodara and in the forests of South Gujarat. It also occurs in Tunkner and Kalvat areas of Shoolpaneswar sanctuary and in the forests of Valsad, Dangs etc. 



👉Habitat  :  The Palm civet inhabits dense forest as also orchards of coconuts and mangoes.



👉Behaviour  :  Palm civet is nocturnal and arboreal. It lives on trees. It steals toddy from containers kept on palm trees for toddy collection.



👉Signs of presence  :  Pugmarks, broken toddy pots/containers near a toddy tree.




👉Palm civets living in the vicinity of human settlements can become poultry or toddy thieves. Moreover, such palm civets kill mice/rats in good numbers. Palm civets can be tamed easily and a tamed civet can become a nice 'friend' of human being. In South India's dense forest a species called Brown palm civet occurs. As it is a shy animal, it rarely approaches human settlements. Apart from Common Indian civet, Palm civet is the only other civet species that has country wide distribution.
