Length             :  65 cm (tail length : 25 cm) 

Weight             :  750 - 900 gm

Gestation        :   40 - 42 days

Life span         :   9 - 10 years

Breeding         :  2 - 3 time in a year




👉Description  :  Smaller size, shorter tail, brownish grey colour of the body speckled with blackish dark brown hairs. 



👉Food   :   Mainly carnivorous. Feeds on hares, rats, snakes, frogs, eggs of birds and insects. 



👉Distribution   :  All over the state. 



👉Habitat   :   It inhabits fields, farms, grasslands, forests and thorny area.



👉Behaviour  :  Diurnal. It lives in burrows dug by itself. 



👉Signs of presence  :  Pugmarks, track along hedges.


👉There are two races of this species. One of them lives in/near desert areas and has pale coat, whereas other one that lives in fertile areas of North India has dark brown coat minutely speckled with golden colour. It is a cautious animal that always lives under some cover. The young ones are quite helpless and dependent on mother. Like a mother cat, the mother mongoose restlessly moves her young ones from one place to the other.
