Height:          50 - 60 cm

Life span:       12 - 15 years

Breeding:       Round the year [peak October - November] January to late April is the time of new births. 



👉Description  :     A medium - sized, long tailed macaque.  A bonnet of long dark hairs radiate in all directions form a whorl on its crown. 


👉Food  :    Eat anything eatable. Fruits, leaves and shoots also insects, grubs and spiders. 


👉Distribution  :   South Gujarat, mostly Dangs. Probably there was an escapize animal, seen near vansada N. Park during bio - diversity study in 1999 by Geer Foundation. A researcher (k. Tatu) had reported having seen small troops at purna WLS and near Gira falls in 2002 during bio - diversity study by Geer foundation However, existence of this species as a natural population is doubted by some experts. 


👉Habitat  :    Villages and jungle, both in the foothill and in the plains. 


👉Behaviour   :   Bonnet macaques are very social and  live in highly organized troops of both sexes of all ages in well defined. 


👉Signs of presence  :    Droppings, Voice, Foot prints and sound jumping. 




👉The life span of bonnet macaque can be 30 years (in captivity) . It occurs only in India at the global level. It's distribution is quite restricted to southern india and thus it is not seen in northern india. Rhesus macaque that has similarity with the bonnet macaque occurs in Afghanistan and Southern China apart from India.
